This is hand-hammered pewter. The designs are original and the quantity is limited. Over a number of years, Mr. Miller has combined the techniques of many skilled craftsmen in arriving at a style of his own. The most outstanding feature of his technique is the planishing, which gives the pewter its hand-hammered appearance and also work-hardens it. Mr. Miller uses pewter made of tin. antimony and copper-a mixture introduced in the United States about 1800. Since it contains no lead, this pewter has much less oxidation than some older types. Mr. Miller has signed each piece.
The only care required for Mr. Miller's pieces is washing in warm water and drying thoroughly and carefully, to avoid spotting. For stubborn stains. a small amount of ammonia may be used in the water. Never put pewter over direct heat.
